From Car Hauler to Mobile Bar
Like most good ideas, our idea of opening a mobile bar started, yep, you guessed it, in a bar, day drinking of course. While having a cold one, we noticed Powerball was up to $1.2 Billion and like everyone else, we began day dreaming about what we would do with that kind of money. A Private jet, the big yacht, homes spread out all over the world were all mentioned. The reality is, as good as that all sounds, we would still have to do something productive and functional to stay grounded and keep to our roots. The subject of opening a patriotic themed bar seemed to fit. After another cold one (or two), we landed on a patriotic themed mobile bar. The ideas of what to use were tossed around from a horse trailer, a van, to a trailer. Toss in another cold one (or two), the idea was growing and it was go big or go home! We decided to use an enclosed auto transporter, which we owned under our auto transport company, Tradewinds Auto Transport. That truck and trailer was up for sale anyways. Ideas flowed like cold beer on a hot day, gut the sleeper, put a carnival pop up window on the side and we would be off and running. After another cold one (or two), the idea was born to have a deck added, after all, the truck was too tall for people to just walk up to a side window and order a drink like a hot dog truck. The idea was born!
We investigated having a custom sleeper built that would have a deck fold down off of it. As cool as that plan was, it was too expensive and not realistic for an unproven business venture. The plan shifted and stars aligned and we unexpectedly landed on a 26’ straight job box that had a curtain side. All the engineering was already done to open the right side of the box up, home run! Now we had to figure out a deck and build the bar. Custom built cabinets were made, the cooler, kegerator and sinks were bought and installed. Customizable lighting was added, as well as a flat screen TV and sound system. The bar itself was built using old reclaimed wood from one of Bill’s first jobs (35+ years ago) at a carpet warehouse. That wood used to be part of the pallet racking system that stored carpet rolls.
All in all, from concept to soft launch took just over three years to complete. It is still a work in progress and we still have a ton of ideas!
We would be remise if we didn’t acknowledge;
